Ashland, Wisconsin
Ashland, Wisconsin is a port city on Lake Superior near the head of Port Chequamegon. It being part of the Northern Territory has allowed it to see many different settlers over the centuries. These settlers were native indians, european explorers, furers, loggers, shippers entrepeneurs and railroaders. The first plat of land registered as Ashland was in 1856. The first railway in Ashland was the Wisconsin Central in 1877 when they made a connection from Ashland to Chicago. In 1883 the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railway, which later became the Chicago & Northwestern, added a connection into Ashland.
